It’s July- new month and a new strategy for winners!

It’s a new month, the perfect time for a new start. This is a great time to step back, assess your results and map the best way forward towards your goal.

What do your half-year figures show? Did you hit the numbers? Are you on track?

The economic environment in Zimbabwe (and in most other places elsewhere) is depressing. With numerous factors militating against business growth, it’s easy to resign your business’s outcomes to some external forces rather than from your own control. The majority of business owners I have been interacting with passed this same sentiment: “things are tough and there is nothing we can do about it”.

Well, there is always something one can do to move ahead in business. Fortunately it’s all in your power and control to steer the ship in the right direction towards growth. First, you need to know your desired destination. You cannot lead your business if you don’t where you want to go.

What business targets did you set for this time of the year? If you achieved them, congratulations. If you missed them, well, there is still the second part of the year to catch up in, so you better starting working now on how to get your strategy right.

Too many SME owners operate with no clear and definite goals for the business; worse still, the majority have no idea how the business is performing because they do not make use of monthly financial reports.

If you truly want to succeed, start with the basics:

  • set clear financial goals and operational goals
  • map how these goals will be achieved and assign responsibilities to yourself and your  key staff for achieving them
  • give the yourselves realistic  time frames
  • set up methods of analyzing monthly results against the goals
  • do take action, starting now to get things moving

If you don’t strategy seriously, you will find yourself pitying yourself at the end of the year, and the next, and the next, trying to get others to agree with you that things are just bad and there is nothing you can do about it.

To help you move ahead and in the right direction, I recommend you read the following books, which you can download for free of on the links below, and don’t forget to let your friends know!
