1200-1300: How to write a business plan Part 2: Describe your products / services, customers, market.
1300-1400: Lunch break

Afternoon Session
1400-1515: Writing a business plan Part 3 Analyze the competition, describe your strategies, marketing, production and people plans.
1515-1530: Tea break
1530-1600: Writing a business plan part 4: Make realistic financial projections.

Business Planning for Profit and Growth


a) How to analyze the viability and feasibility of your business idea (30 min)
Viability is the ability to exist, make profit and grow
• Technical viability: does the product work? Can you get it / make it?
• Market viability: how many people want to buy your product? Market research: observe, ask, talk ->
• Financial viability: Break-even analysis: how many items do I need to sell in order to cover my costs: fixed costs (actual), variable costs (find out from other businesses), gross margin, {BE = fixed costs / gross margin per unit}
• Legal viability: licenses, contracts, agreements, statutory requirements: taxes, health standards etc
• Feasibility: will the business generate profit? Cost of starting, competition, how will targeted customers know about your product? How will you manage the business?

b) Essential information you need before starting to write a business plan (45 min)

• Capital requirement: People, machinery / equipment, premises etc (Capital Costs)
• Working capital requirement: expenses before generating revenue
• Marketing efficiency: costs of bringing in one customer / expected value from the customer
• Expected sales:
• Simple financial projection- monthly revenue –costs of sales- expenses= gross profit

c) Layout, types and formats of business plans for various purposes (15 min)
• Business plan for bank / financier: emphasize ability to repay loan, cash flow generation
• Business plan for investor: growth potential, profitability and value of business
• Internal business plan: action plans, resources required, timelines

d) How to write a business plan step by step (90 min)
• Step 1 Introduction to the business and management
• Step 2 Product and service description
• Step 3 Market and Industry Analysis
• Step 4 Marketing Plan
• Step 5 Sales and Distribution Strategy
• Step 6 Production Strategy and Structures
• Step 7 Financial Strategy
